▼ 羽織、二本差し、白足袋を履くことが許される侍を演じてきたが、羽織を脱ぎ捨て、黒足袋を履いて浪人に変身した。膝を立てて座っているのは、粗野な印象を出すため。

Ronin The Jobless Samurai

I played samurai who are allowed to wear haori coat, two swords and a pair of white tabi (Japanese socks). This time I took off haori coat and wore black tabi so that I transformed into ronin the jobless samurai. Sitting upright knee is to produce brutal impression.

▼ 白足袋に履き直し、正規の侍に復帰したあと、跪（ひざまず）いて太刀を抜き、一刀流中段の構えを取った。

One-sword Kendo Fencing

I changed white tabi socks so as to return ordinary samurai. I drew a long sword while kneeling, and set up a posture of middle guard in One-sword Kendo Fencing. Is this cool?

▼ 日本の剣術の二刀流は、利き手に本差を、反対側の手に脇差を持った形が最も多い。重い刀を両手に持って別々に使用することは難しく、二刀を中心とする流派は少ない。二刀流の中では、宮本武蔵が開いた二天一流が最も有名。

Two-sword Kendo Fencing

In the kendo posture of Two-sword Fencing it is most common to have a long sword in his right hand and short sword in his left hand. It is difficult to use two swords at once due to the heavy weight so that Two-sword Fencing is not popular among samurai. Niten-Ichryu School founded by Musashi Miyamoto is the most famous in Japan.

二刀流の剣豪・宮本武蔵

▼ 剣術は、強くて格好良い二刀流が好きだ。宮本武蔵（1584-1645）は、江戸時代初期の剣術家、兵法家で、二刀を用いる二天一流兵法の開祖である。彼は、終生負けることなく、天命を全うした。この写真は、晩年の武蔵を描いた肖像画で、その自然体の構えは、どこにも力を入れる必要がない。

Master Fencer Musashi Miyamoto of Two-sword Kendo Fencing

I like two-sword kendo fencing of the sword-fighting because it looks cool and strong. Musashi Miyamoto（1584-1645）is very famous master fencer of two-sword kendo fencing at early Edo period and also the founder of Niten-Ichiryu School. He never defeated in his life. This photo is famous portrait of Musashi in his later years. His kendo posture is very natural so that no need to put particular emphasis.

Middle Guard Position of Two-sword Fencing

I took off haori coat and tabi socks, girded up the sleeves of kimono with a cord and pulled up the right and left sides of hakama skirt so that I transformed into actual fighting style. The swordsmanship style of using two swords is called Nito-ryu in Japanese.

褌侍に変身！（前姿）

▼ 着物を着たら下着は褌でなければならない。パンツのようなハンダコが大正時代に登場するまでは、江戸時代から明治時代に至るまで、日本人男性の下着はすべて褌で、浮世絵に描かれている武士や町人の褌姿は、ほとんどがこの前垂式六尺褌だった。白褌が上品で格好良く、侍の多くが愛用した。

Transforming into Fundoshi Samurai!

You must wear fundosi when You choose kimono. All of Japanese men's underwear was fundoshi in Edo and Meiji Era. Fundoshi figures of samurai or ordinary citizen were drawn on Ukiyo-e painting very often. Almost was this rokusyaku fundoshi with apron in front. White colored fundoshi is noble and cool so that many samurai use white fundoshi all the time.

着物と裸褌

▲▼ 武士だけでなく、一般大衆の下着は、江戸・明治期を通じて褌だけである。テレビの低俗な時代劇で見かけるハンダコは、完全な虚構である。高温多湿の日本では、侍が発明した褌はクールでヘルシーで快適だ。

internetで褌を締めた侍の写真を探したが、どこにも見当たらなかった。そこで、私がやるしかないと決心し、日本の裸褌文化を世界に伝えるためにあえて撮影した。

Kimono and Naked Fundoshi

Not only samurai but also the common people wear only fundoshi under kimono throughout Edo and Meiji Era. It is absolutely fiction that samurai wearing underpants-like handako are seen in the vulgar TV dramas. Fundoshi which was invented by samurai is cool, healthy and confortable in hot humid country like Japan.

I serched samurai photo wearing fundoshi by Google Search but I could not find at all so that I determined to take my photos of naked fundoshi samurai at this studio in order to introduce Japanese naked fundoshi culture to the world.

▼ 褌は、前姿より、Ｔバックの後姿が男らしく格好良いと思う。神田生まれの水森亜土（みずもりあど）は、「お祭りは専ら行列を追いかけるだけだけど、実は・・・お神輿を担ぐ人のふんどしを締めたお尻が美しい！中学生の頃からなんてセクシーなんだろうと思ってた、キャハハ。ませてたのかな。」という。（東京人 2003年６月号52頁）

I think T back view of fundoshi is very cool and manly more than front view. Famous singer and actress Ado Mizumori was born at Kanda central Tokyo in 1939 said 'I liked to see Kanda festival in my middle school days, enjoying the beautiful hips who are wearing fundoshi carrying mikoshi portable shrine, thinking how sexy they are! I think may be a little precocious girl, hahaha...'

▼ 白褌を赤褌に締め直して、再度、二刀流に挑戦。赤褌は若者の褌で勢いがあり、地域によっては漁業や水泳のほか、60歳の還暦祝に締めるのが習わしだった。皆さんは、赤白どちらの色が好きですか。

I changed my fundoshi from white rokusyaku fundoshi to red one so that I challenged Two-sword Fencing again. Red fundoshi is vigorous and was very popular among young men at that time. In some areas red fundoshi was worn for fishing or swimming. It was the custom that red fundoshi was presented to the aged man for his sixtieth birthday celebration. Which color do you like, my friends?

前垂れを三角に畳んだ六尺褌

▼ 六尺褌は、長さが６尺（約2m）あることからその名が付いた。前に垂らすのが普通だが、暑い夏期に褌一丁で仕事をする場合、邪魔にならないように三角に畳むことも多い。前垂れの四角と三角、皆さんはどちらが格好良いと思いますか。

Rokusyaku Fundoshi Apron Folded into Triangle

Rokusyaku fundoshi was named after the length of 'roku-syaku' about two meters. It is normal to hang down the front square apron, but it sometimes interfere with some work wearing fundoshi only in the hot summer season so that the apron is folded into triangle. Which one is cool, square or triangle, my friends?

峰打ちの攻撃

▼ 下段の構えから大刀で峰打ちにする。歌舞伎のシーンから拝借した。峰打ちは、相手を殺さないための手段。

Strike with the back of sword

I am going to strike with the back of long sword from low position of One-sword Fencing. This pose is an imitated form of sword play on the kabuki stage. Striking with the back of sword is a method to prevent killing enemy. Is this cool?
